The US State Department today put out a statement by Noel Clay, a State Department spokesman, that requested the Ukrainian govermnet to count the votes and make the votes count in their re-do election held today. They’re urging that the vote be held to International standards.
Too bad our government only holds foreign nations to this, and not our own, or we’d be celebrating the massive victory of Kerry/Edwards on January 20th, 2005.

U.S. Urges Fair Vote Count in Ukraine
Sun Dec 26, 1:50 PM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States called on Ukrainian authorities to make sure votes were counted accurately in the presidential election Sunday after fraud marred the previous vote.
“We hope for a free, fair vote that meets international standards and results in an outcome truly reflecting the will of Ukraine’s people,” said Noel Clay, a State Department spokesman.
“So far, we’re hearing that the election is going fairly smoothly, and we look forward to the outcome,” said White House spokesman Trent Duffy, accompanying President Bush (news – web sites) to his ranch in Crawford, Texas.
The State Department urged the authorities to adhere “to international standards for tabulations and registering the results.”
Viktor Yushchenko faced Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich in the contest and exit polls showed the liberal challenger was likely to win. After charges of massive fraud, Ukraine’s Supreme Court threw out the result of their Nov. 21 face-off that had given victory to Yanukovich. (Additional reporting by Caren Bohan)
