Of course we all new this. This is getting to all new lows, however.
First, Rudy Giuliani tried the “if Democrats win, we will get attacked just like 9/11” to scare up his base. This is pretty shameless. At least the Democrats are fighting back this time, unlike what was going on during the 2004 Presidential election. George Bush tried that tactic, and enough people were suckered by it to vote for him. Now, the Democrats have started fighting back. There’s an action alert (that I can’t currently find, but it came from democrats.org) that is a petition to the Giuliani campaign to come clean and stop misleading Americans.
A bit closer to home for me, an Oregon lawmaker went one further than Giuliani, if you can believe it. Oregon Representative Dennis Richardson tried to tie the horrible events that occurred last week at Virginia Tech with the passing of equality legislation for Oregon’s LGBT community. Only a Republican can come up and say that equality for GLBT folks equates to mass murder. Specifically, Richardson said:
“On Monday the world witnessed the tragedy at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. On Tuesday Oregon witnessed the passage of Domestic Benefits for same-sex couples (HB2007) and Civil Rights based on sexual orientation.“
What a total jackass. Then again, the biggots ALSO said things like that during the 1950s Civil Rights struggles.
