I was out of the country on vacation, and come back to ugliness. First off, I’m glad that there was a huge rally in Jena, Louisiana in support of the Jena 6. This country is on a slippery slope back to the 1950s and 1960s when blacks are treated like this. It is unconscionable.
What is getting nasty, from my personal point of view, is the situation where a student was tasered at a John Kerry rally, for asking a question. I don’t have all the facts, no. Kerry’s own website said that the student pushed his way tot he front of the line. Okay, fine. That’s rude. But as he was trying to talk to the Senator and former presidential candidate, the student was pulled away by police. FOR WHAT? He RIGHTLY resisted arrest, because he was doing NOTHING wrong. He was asking pointed questions of the Senator. Want to see for yourself? The video is here.
Kerry put out a statement. Let me share with you:
“In 37 years of public appearances, through wars, protests and highly emotional events, I have never had a dialogue end this way. I believe I could have handled the situation without interruption, but I do not know what warnings or other exchanges transpired between the young man and the police prior to his barging to the front of the line and their intervention. I asked the police to allow me to answer the question and was in the process of responding when he was taken into custody. I was not aware that a taser was used until after I left the building. I hope that neither the student nor any of the police were injured. I regret enormously that a good healthy discussion was interrupted.”
Kerry admits that he would have responded. But he did not condemn the actions of the police, and his obfuscation to weasel out of responsibility for this is worthy of a medal from George Bush, the king of weasel and obfuscation.
There is not another dime coming out of my pocket that will go directly to a member of congress, save my Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich. Not a dime, until the actions are condemned by Senator Kerry!!!
